Change of Character

Detect possible trend reversals when structure breaks in the opposite direction.

The Change of Character (CHoCH) block detects when the market breaks its current structure in the opposite direction — signaling a potential trend reversal. In an uptrend, a CHoCH occurs when price breaks below a recent swing low. In a downtrend, it occurs when price breaks above a recent swing high.

Why It Matters

Change of Character is one of the earliest signals that a trend may be reversing. It tells you that the dominant side (buyers or sellers) is losing control. This is valuable for catching the beginning of new trends or avoiding late entries in dying trends.

How to Use It

  1. 1Drag the Change of Character block onto your canvas
  2. 2Set the direction — bullish CHoCH (bearish-to-bullish reversal) or bearish CHoCH (bullish-to-bearish reversal)
  3. 3Configure break mode and candle routing
  4. 4Connect it to Logic or Entry blocks

Settings Explained

Direction — Whether to detect bullish changes (downtrend breaking up) or bearish changes (uptrend breaking down). A bullish CHoCH is a potential buy signal. A bearish CHoCH is a potential sell signal.

Break Mode — How the structure break is confirmed. This affects whether the block requires a full candle close beyond the level or just a wick break. Candle close confirmations are more reliable but slightly slower.

Candle Direction Routing — Routes the signal based on the breaking candle's direction. This lets your strategy handle bullish and bearish break candles differently.

Example Use Case

You build a reversal strategy that watches for a bullish CHoCH after a prolonged downtrend. When the market breaks above a recent swing high, the strategy looks for a pullback entry, expecting a new uptrend to begin.

CHoCH signals are strongest when they occur at key levels — like daily support/resistance, order blocks, or after a liquidity grab. A CHoCH in isolation is less reliable than one confirmed by multiple factors.
